Cerrado das Águas Opens Registration for Training in the Collection of Native Cerrado Seeds

Native Cerrado seeds can open new avenues for environmental restoration and for those who live in the region. To this end, Cerrado das Águas, with support from the Floresta Viva Call for Proposals, is now accepting registrations for the Training Course on Collecting Native Cerrado Seeds. The course will take place on October 1 and 2, 2026, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at Fazenda Daterra in Patrocínio (MG). Accommodations will be provided during the training for participants traveling from other locations..
The initiative is part of the “Ecological Restoration and Coffee” project, which aims to strengthen biodiverse and productive landscapes by promoting sustainable agricultural practices and protecting the water resources essential to our biome. With support from the Floresta Viva project—an initiative of BNDES and Petrobras managed by FUNBIO—Cerrado das Águas has been expanding its efforts in ecological restoration and landscape regeneration in the Cerrado Mineiro region. The initiative also receives support from Sebrae and the Cerrado Seed Network, and its partners include the Cerrado Mineiro Region and Angá.
The training will combine theoretical content and practical activities to outline the process from planning the harvest through processing and storage to the marketing of seeds. Participants will learn how to select parent plants and observe flowering and fruiting cycles to determine the appropriate harvest periods.
The program will also cover collection methods and tools for the Cerrado’s different phytophysiognomies, as well as best practices for safety, logistics, and traceability. During the processing stage, the training will address cleaning and drying processes, storage, seed viability, and quality control. The training will feature three instructors and collectors nominated by the Cerrado Seed Network.
