Cerrado das Águas and Embrapa Café establish regenerative partnership.
Cerrado das Águas and Embrapa Café sign protocol to strengthen regenerative coffee farming.
A document signed during the Territorial Regeneration Forum establishes a cooperation agenda focused on research, innovation, and adaptation to climate change.

On September 1st, during the Territorial Regeneration Forum, Cerrado das Águas and the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa), through Embrapa Café, signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote regenerative and climate-resilient coffee farming. The initiative establishes an agenda for technical, scientific, and institutional cooperation, based on ongoing experiences in the Cerrado Mineiro region and the work developed by Cerrado das Águas, uniting various actors in the coffee production chain.
The document brings the work of Cerrado das Águas closer to producers within the scientific and technological scope of Embrapa Café, whose objective is to develop, implement, and support research, development, and innovation actions that contribute to the sustainability of Brazilian coffee farming and strengthen the adoption of regenerative strategies in the territories, especially in the Cerrado Mineiro region.
The agenda is organized into three axes: research, development and innovation in topics related to sustainable coffee farming; adaptation and validation of technologies focusing on regenerative coffee farming; and knowledge transfer and local capacity building in the territories of joint action.
This collaboration seeks to broaden the connection between scientific knowledge and producers' experiences, creating conditions for building solutions adapted to local realities. Among the expected contributions are strengthening the capacity to adapt to climate change, training people, and generating positive socioeconomic and environmental impacts.
The protocol was signed by the president of Cerrado das Águas, Marcelo Urtado, and the head of Embrapa Café, Rodolfo Osório de Oliveira, during the event. Valid for 24 months with the possibility of extension, the instrument establishes the basis for cooperation. The projects resulting from this agenda will be formalized through specific instruments, accompanied by their respective work plans.
“This cooperation is essential for Embrapa Café. We have the opportunity to contribute to the Cerrado das Águas region in building climate-smart coffee production systems that provide coffee growers with profitability and sustainability, mainly through the conservation and even recovery of soil and water. The pre-competitive environment of Cerrado das Águas, and the close link between coffee growers and private companies, forms the ideal environment for cooperation and co-creation for this work. A fundamental piece in the development of the entire Cerrado Mineiro territory,” says Rodolfo Osório.
The signing during the Territorial Regeneration Forum reinforces the proposal to integrate institutions, producers, and knowledge around a common goal: advancing production models that combine the conservation of natural resources, climate resilience, and territorial development.
“We are very proud of this partnership with Embrapa Café, an institution of great importance to Brazilian and global coffee farming. This union embodies the essence of Cerrado das Águas: connecting those who transform. By bringing research closer to producers and other members of our territorial regeneration platform, we strengthen the exchange of knowledge and expand the potential of the actions we build together. This is how we continue connecting those who transform and regenerate territories,” concludes Marcelo Urtado.
