WHERE WE WORK

Our area of operation is the Cerrado. Known as “the cradle” of Brazil's water resources, the waters that originate in the Cerrado feed the Bambuí, Urucuia, and Guarani aquifers, continental rivers, and reservoirs in the Federal District and states of São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Tocantins, Piauí, and Bahia. The Cerrado is a biodiversity hotspot, regions that are both rich in biodiversity and highly threatened, thus making them a priority area for conservation.
Our focus area within the Cerrado is the “Cerrado Mineiro”, the area of the biome located within the State of Minas Gerais. This region encompasses 55 municipalities and over 4,500 producers practicing highly technified agriculture. It is here where we are implementing our pilot project, more specifically in the Córrego Feio Watershed, located in the municipality of Patrocínio.

The implementation of the pilot project will be concluded by the end of 2020 and we plan to implement our expansion strategy in another six municipalities by 2023: Serra do Salitre, Monte Carmelo, Rio Paranaíba, Carmo do Paranaíba, Araguari, and Coromandel. Together, these municipalities are responsible for 70% of the biome’s coffee production. The aim is to establish ecological corridors and achieve significant biodiversity gains across the whole region.
